The Houston Bar Association and Houston Young Lawyers Association military and veterans committees are hosting the 2022 Fire Team Relay on Saturday, November 12, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Rice Stadium in Houston, 6100 Main Street.
The four-event relay includes a 1.5-mile run, three miles on a bike, an obstacle course, and a one-mile weighted run. Before each leg of the event, participants will eat an appetizer portion of food provided by local veteran-owned businesses.
Proceeds from the relay will benefit Combined Arms and the Veterans Program of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Veterans Legal Initiative. For information on the event, including how to register or sponsor, go to hba.org.
Additional opportunities to help Houston-area veterans include the Houston Bar Association and Houston Volunteer Lawyers Veterans Legal Initiative free legal clinics. Hosted every Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, the clinics aid veterans and spouses of deceased veterans with one-on-one legal advice from volunteer attorneys.
Civil legal issues covered by volunteers include estate planning, expungement, consumer law, guardianship, family law, probate law, veterans benefits, discharge upgrades, landlord/tenant issues, and bankruptcy law.
