The Texas Advocacy Project is seeking donations in support of its annual Backpacks for Hope campaign. Through July 17, donors can drop off new book bags and school supplies, which will be distributed along with the project’s legal hotline numbers and safety planning literature to mothers and their children in domestic violence shelters across the state.

“Starting a new school is scary for any child—imagine what it would be like if you had to do it in the middle of the year while showing up with your books in a paper sack,” Michael Walker, a member of the project’s board of directors, said in a press release. “With the help of our community, we will make things a little easier for kiddos and at the same time provide their moms with the information they need to break the cycle of violence.”

Drop-off locations include:

Michael Walker’s Allstate Insurance office at 3810 Medical Pkwy., Ste. 155, Austin

Silicon Labs at 200 and 400 W. Cesar Chavez, Austin

Waterloo Ice House at 9600 South I-35 Service Rd. SB, Suite D-100; 8600 Burnet Rd.; 6203 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin; and 9600 Escarpment Blvd., Austin
