Former State Bar of Texas President Randy Sorrels received the prestigious Attorney of the Year Award at the Texas Legal Excellence Awards Dinner on September 14 in Dallas. The award, given by ALM Media and Texas Lawyer, recognizes a lawyer who provides the greatest success and service throughout Texas. Amy M. Stewart of the Stewart Law Group, and Thomas Melsheimer of Winston & Strawn, both in Dallas, were the two other finalists for the award.
“This award means a lot not only to myself, but to the lawyers at our firm, including my wife and law partner,” Sorrels said in a press release. “We opened our law firm doors less than two years ago and have put our heart, energy, and soul into providing the best legal representation we can to our clients. Even with COVID-19 restrictions in place, we have tried to relentlessly pursue our clients’ cases to get them in front of juries—and the juries have responded with just and righteous verdicts.”
The Houston-based Sorrels Law team recently secured a $3.24 million verdict for Kacy Clemens and Conner Capel against Concrete Cowboy for an assault in February 2021. Clemens is the son of former Major League pitcher Roger Clemens and Capel is Clemens’ godson. In April 2022, Sorrels was hired by an attorney in Hidalgo County to represent her in an auto-pedestrian crash. The jury awarded $9.3 million in damages in that case.
In June, Sorrels was named the TEX-ABOTA Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is certified in personal injury trial law and civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
