In Memoriam – February and March 2021

The State Bar of Texas’ Membership Department was informed in February and March 2021 of the deaths of these members. We join the officers and directors of the State Bar in expressing our deepest sympathy.

• J. Mike Amerson, 64, of Houston, died September 16, 2020. He received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1990.
• Mary Jean Audette, 92, of Fall River, Massachusetts, died January 13, 2021. She received her law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1984.
• Mary L. Porter Bailey, 67, of Austin, died February 11, 2021. She received her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1979.
• Bill J. Ballard, 94, of Santa Rosa, California, died January 28, 2021. He received his law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1968.
• Mauro Barreiro, 71, of Palmhurst, died September 7, 2020. He received his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1987.
• Melvin Gray Bateman Jr., 74, of Athens, died January 13, 2021. He received his law degree from Baylor Law School and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1971.
• John Bennett Jr., 73, of Houston, died December 27, 2020. He received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1972.
• Barton Edward Bernstein, 90, of Frisco, died December 19, 2020. He received his law degree from Boston University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1957.
• Lillian Blancas, 47, of El Paso, died December 7, 2020. She received her law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2009.
• George T. Bond, 79, of Spring, died January 3, 2021. He received his law degree from Baylor Law School and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1974.
• Jamie C. Boyd, 92, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died February 5, 2021. He received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1958.
• Thomas M. Braniff, 75, of Houston, died February 12, 2021. He received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1970.

• Jerrilyn Hardaway, 58, of Houston, died January 8, 2021. She received her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1993.
