The nonprofit Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas is partnering with the Texas Attorney General’s Office to host an open government seminar designed for the public, journalists, attorneys, and government employees in the Rio Grande Valley.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9 at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, 1200 Ash Ave. in McAllen.

The Attorney General’s office will begin with training on the Texas Public Information Act followed by training on TPIA cost rules. Those sessions are free and finish at 11:30 a.m.

The FOI Foundation will continue the day’s training at 1 p.m. with a session on the Texas Open Meetings Act given by attorney Thomas Williams, the foundation’s vice president. Admission for this session is $50.

The seminar, sponsored by The (McAllen) Monitor and IntegrityTitle.com, qualifies for CLE credit.
