Volunteer attorneys will provide free divorce legal assistance for low-income Dallas County residents at a clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 24 at Jubilee Park and Community Center, 907 Bank St.
The clinic, held by the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, occurs on the fourth Wednesday of every month with the exceptions of November and December.
Residents can receive help with simple, uncontested divorces and uncontested non-parent custody and adoptions. To qualify for assistance, you must apply and meet certain guidelines, including being a legal resident of the United States, be a resident of Dallas County, have a minimal amount of property with no disputes, and have had no family violence within the last 90 days, unless you have or have sought a protective order. If there have been instances of domestic violence, you may still qualify.
Residents needing assistance before or after the divorce clinic can attend one of DVAP’s other legal clinics held in the Dallas area multiple times each month. Residents may also call the Dallas Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service at (214) 220-7444.
