The State Bar of Texas Construction Law Section was recognized for its longtime support for legal aid at a luncheon celebrating pro bono work Monday.

The Texas Access to Justice Foundation honored the section for contributing more than $350,000 for civil legal aid in the state over the years at the event, which was hosted by the foundation and the Texas Supreme Court. The occasion helped the state’s legal community kick off Celebrate Pro Bono Week, a national program that highlights the importance of free legal assistance. Prime Partner banks, which pay higher interest rates on accounts ensuring more funding for legal aid, were also recognized.

Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht presented three state legislators with Legislative Hero Awards for their commitment to access to justice: state Sen. Judith Zaffirini of Laredo, Rep. Jessica Farrar of Houston, and Rep. Bryan Hughes of Mineola.
