Editor’s Note: In this blog series, we are getting to know the members of the Texas Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors. TYLA, commonly called the “public service arm” of the State Bar of Texas, works to facilitate the administration of justice, foster respect for the law, and advance the role of the legal profession in serving the public. All TYLA programs are accomplished through the volunteer efforts of its board and committee members, with the cooperation of local affiliate young lawyers associations. Learn more at tyla.org.

Name: Laura Pratt

Employer/Organization: Brady & Hamilton

Practice Area(s): Commercial litigation with a focus on condemnation law, administrative law, and agricultural law

Why did you join the TYLA board? Lawyers are in an incredible position to serve others. TYLA was a unique opportunity for me to marry my heart for service and my love for the practice of law in a way that also encourages and empowers others to do the same. Plus, I really love helping people, especially new lawyers, feel heard, valued, and supported in what they do.

What advice would you give to other TYLA members who are looking for ways to grow professionally? Set your priorities early and “hold the line.”

Before joining the TYLA board, what is your favorite experience with community or public service? My work combating human trafficking and supporting survivors in the West Texas area.

What was your favorite movie, TV show, musical artist, or song from high school/college? Movie: Lord of the Rings; TV Show: Friends; Musical Artist/Song: Too many to choose—I have very eclectic music taste.
