The San Antonio Bar Association has launched the San Antonio Legal Services Association, or SALSA, making its Community Justice Program an independent organization.

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing spikes in unemployment and housing crises across the state, SALSA has created virtual training and remote legal assistance opportunities to assist tenants with obtaining relief and to ensure continuity of services to the vulnerable populations already being served. SALSA staff and volunteer mentors as well as partners at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid are available to assist volunteers who are stepping outside of their traditional practice area during these unprecedented times.

Attorneys can sign up for volunteer training, a shift, or inform SALSA of skills and interests to assist with any future opportunities on the association’s website.

Another way to assist SALSA is to donate to the Big Give Emergency Relief fundraiser. The Association of Corporate Counsel South/Central Texas Chapter, as part of its annual commitment to pro bono legal services, will match the first $20,000 raised.
