The Texas Center for Legal Ethics awards Charles “Skip” Watson the 2019 Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award.

Watson is an appellate attorney for Greenberg Traurig, LLP in Austin.

“Skip Watson is, quite simply, one of the most honorable and ethical lawyers I have ever worked with, against, or around,” Houston appellate attorney Kevin Dubose said in a news release about the award. Dubose received the Pope Award in 2012. “I have never heard of anyone having an unpleasant experience or relationship with Skip, and that is rare for any lawyer.”

Each year, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics presents the Pope Award to a judge or attorney who personifies the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in appellate law. Former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope was one of TCLE’s founders and the first individual to receive the Award in 2009.

Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht will present the Pope Award to Watson on September 6 at the Annual Texas Supreme Court Historical Society dinner in Austin.

Founded in 1989 by Chief Justice Pope and two other retired Texas Supreme Court chief justices, TCLE promotes the values contained in the Texas Lawyer’s Creed and fulfills its founders’ vision to be the leading center of knowledge and resources for ethics and professionalism in Texas.
