The National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being today released a comprehensive report that makes recommendations for improving lawyer well-being, including addressing substance use and mental health issues. Bree Buchanan, director of the Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program, is a co-chair of the task force and a co-author of the report.

The report’s recommendations focus on central themes, including:

  • Eliminating stigma associated with seeking help.
  • Emphasizing that well-being is an indispensable part of a lawyer’s duty of competence.
  • Taking incremental steps to change how lawyers are regulated to instill greater well-being in the profession.
