Oil and gas negotiators and industry experts will descend on Houston next month for the much-anticipated International Petroleum Summit.
The Association of International Petroleum Negotiators event, which will be May 15-17 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, will feature high-profile speakers, presentations on industry trends and hot topics, interviews with oil and gas experts, sessions on career growth, and networking opportunities.
“If you provide services as an in-house or firm attorney to clients in the oil and gas industry, this event is the not-to-be-missed conference for 2017,” said Houston lawyer Marie Wagner, an at-large director on the AIPN board. The summit will not be back in Houston until 2019.
Several Texas attorneys are scheduled to moderate panels during the event, including Jennifer L. Price, with Price Arbitration in Houston, who will be discussing the newly published 2017 AIPN Model International Dispute Resolution Agreement for use in petroleum contracts. Norman Nadorff, special counsel to Mayer Brown in Houston, will be on a panel titled “Foreign Investment is a Three-way Street: Creating Rules that Work for all Sides.”
“In an era of persistently low oil prices, rules of the game written during more robust times no longer work. Oil companies will only invest their limited resources in countries and projects offering a reasonable return,” Nadorff said of the importance of his panel’s focus. “Now more than ever, host country regulators and international oil companies must collaborate in the creation of regulatory systems that will attract foreign investment in petroleum exploration while providing a fair share of profits to host nations for the exploitation of their valuable natural resources.”
