For Random Profiles, we randomly pick one of our 87,000-plus attorneys and do a Q&A. We’ve found that every Texas lawyer has an interesting story. Will yours be next?
Best thing about being a lawyer: Working with my law partners Chad Hagan and David Noll has been the best thing about being a lawyer. David and Chad are dedicated to their families, loyal to our clients, they work hard, and have the highest character. My favorite thing about being a lawyer has been building a law practice with them and sharing the same values that allow us to do the right things for our clients and the law. For me, this is what being a lawyer is all about.
Born: I was born in Southampton, New York in 1973 and grew up in Sag Harbor. Sag Harbor is an old whaling village originally settled in the 1700s and it was fun to grow up there.
Family: My wife Amanda is from Louisiana and our daughter Allie is a native Houstonian. Allie is almost two and insists she does not want to be a lawyer, saying “NoNoNoNo” whenever I ask her.
Areas of practice: I work with entertainment companies and sports organizations concerned about online video piracy and other forms of copyright infringement. Representing executives in employment-related disputes and shareholders in corporate squeeze-outs is another interesting part of my practice.
Education: Graduated law school from the University of Houston Law Center. Before that, I received a graduate degree in communication from Fort Hays State University and an undergraduate degree in public administration from Harding University.
Bet you didn’t know: that I broke my right collar bone falling out of a tree when I was a kid.
Another little known fact: That I broke it again when I crashed my Big Wheel while riding down a hill at West Point.
Culinary talent: I am the master of Italian sausage and peppers.
Latest pursuit: Chess! I’ve taken up chess and will play in the 2011 U.S. Class Championship this year.
Favorite sport: Football season is here! Our Houston Texans looked great in the season opener against the Colts and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.
Memorable vacation: Italy with my wife in 2004 was phenomenal. We visited Venice, Florence, Rome and Positano on the Amalfi Coast. John Steinbeck wrote about Positano in 1953: “It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” So true.
