Marissa HernandezFor Random Profiles, we randomly pick one of our 80,000-plus attorneys, call them, and do a Q&A. We’ve found that every Texas lawyer has an interesting story. Will yours be next?

Best thing about being a lawyer: I get to help a lot of people.

The best piece of advice ever given to you and by whom: My Dad has always told me not to worry about the things you can’t change. I think that advice is so useful in my law practice and life in general.

Most important career lesson: Juries hate when we overcomplicate things. They stop listening when we get hyper-technical about anything.

Favorite saying/quote: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” – John Lennon

Favorite sport: Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football.

Family: I have been married to Jason Hernandez, my high school sweetheart,
for 6 years. We have three children, Elijah (5), Ethan (3) and Isabella (1).

Areas of practice: General civil litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice
Education: B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame (1999); J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law (2002).

Culinary talent: I make some great tacos.

Secret for staying young: My husband is very adventurous, so he keeps me young.

Favorite composers: Lennon/McCartney.

Favorite food: Fried Chicken.

Current reading material: The Twilight Saga.

My favorite weekend retreat: Cozumel, MX.

If I had more time, I would:
Travel a lot more.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing attorneys today? Unfortunately, I think we lawyers have gotten a bad name as a result of a few bad attorneys and lots of negative propaganda. The public has an attitude of mistrust about us although we are a part of a noble profession.

When you are not practicing law, what do you like to do? Spend time with my family.

Marissa works at the Law Offices of Preston Henrichson, P.C.
