Random Profile: Jessica Mangrum, Austin
For Random Profiles, we randomly pick one of our 92,000-plus attorneys and do a Q&A. We've found that every Texas lawyer has an interesting story. Will yours be next?
Personal: I grew up in West, Texas.
Areas of practice: I have a litigation practice, including construction, personal injury, and professional liability.
Education: I went to UT Austin for undergrad and law school. I bleed burnt orange.
Community Involvement: I’ve been involved in Austin Habitat for Humanity for a number of years. I like to see the progress you can make on a home working on a Saturday. The Austin Bar Association partners to construct a “Legal Build” every other year and it’s a great project.
Mentor/hero: My dad is an attorney, and I always admired him for helping people. Many people see doctors and ministers as helping people. Lawyers help people every day, generally under difficult circumstances.
When they do the film about you, what actress should portray you? A jury once told me that I look like Parker Posey, but more often I am told that I look like Tina Fey, especially when I’m wearing my glasses.
Favorite TV program: Downton Abbey
Favorite music: My favorite new album is Cheater’s Game, by Austin’s own Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison.
Favorite sport: Running for myself; Longhorn football for watching
Memorable vacation: I just returned from my honeymoon in Canada. We spent time in Vancouver and in the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia.
If you weren't an attorney, what profession do you think you would be in? I would really enjoy working as park ranger at one on Texas’ state parks, such as Enchanted Rock or Pedernales Falls.
Jessica works at Thompson Coe Cousins & Irons, L.L.P. in Austin.
