Random Profile: Stacey Valdez, Webster

For Random Profiles, we randomly pick one of our 93,000-plus attorneys and do a Q&A. We've found that every Texas lawyer has an interesting story. Will yours be next?

Best thing about being a lawyer: Making a difference in the lives of my clients.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing attorneys today? Staying current on quickly evolving Supreme Court opinions.

Most important career lesson: Invest in educating yourself. Board certification has changed the landscape of my practice.

Family: 3 Children, all boys. One is a police officer, one is in the Navy, and the 3rd is in 2nd grade and loves baseball.

Education: Graduate of South Texas College of Law (2004).

Areas of practice: Board Certified in Family Law. Also practice criminal law.

Culinary talent: absolutely NONE.

Community Involvement: help with my son’s baseball teams.

The last movie I saw: Trouble with the Curve.

If you could be anyone else for a day, who would it be? Whoever is dating Bradley Cooper. Lol. Seriously, Hillary Clinton.

Favorite saying/quote: All that is needed for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing.

Pet peeve: Professional discourtesy.

Favorite TV program: Grey’s Anatomy.

Favorite food: Chips and queso.

If I had more time, I would: Travel more.

Favorite restaurant: Chuys!! Or Eddie V’s.

Hobbies: Traveling, shopping, anything outdoors.

If you weren't an attorney, what profession do you think you would be in? Nursing. I was a nurse before going to law school.

What has changed the most technologically or practice wise since you have been licensed? Internet and e-filing.

How do you think the practice will change in the next 15 years? I think that technology and social media will continue to effect the practice law generally. As far as my practice, in 15 years, I still plan to be kicking butt and taking names.

Stacey works at The Law Office of Tarlow and Valdez in Webster.
